In cities with the history and character of Charleston, there are times when the current use of a building becomes unfitting, but the actual building and its location are still viable given appropriate modifications. Unlike many cities that would just as soon see that building removed and replaced, in Charleston we believe that each building plays an integral part in the fabric of this community.

The solution to this situation is Adaptive Reuse — taking a currently obsolete building, redefining its use, adapting its interior, restoring its exterior and, consequently, revitalizing the building with a thriving new purpose.

At Urban Proper, we have dedicated ourselves to understanding the local markets and what they will support; particularly in the residential, office, light retail and mixed use arenas. We also have the general contracting background to assess what needs to be done to a particular building, how to
accomplish that goal, assign a cost to accomplishing that goal and carry out the plan in the most efficient way possible.
